	Leen Hordijk              IES Director

The mission of the Office of the Director is to support the scientific management and communication issues of the Institute. Together with the Task Force Environment and Health, the Office forms the Directorate of the IES.

Leen Hordijk has been the Director of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability since the 16th of May 2008. He ensures that the IES delivers excellent science that perfectly meets the needs of the European policy-maker, whilst maintaining a stimulating working environment.

Pam Kennedy is the Strategy and Scientific Programme Manager of the IES and acts as the Head of the Office of the Director. She coordinates the development of the Institute’s scientific programmes in support of the JRC corporate activities and takes care of the development and execution of the annual research work programme. She is the IES contact person for the Partnership for European Environmental Research (PEER). Pam also coordinates the Institute’s evaluation exercises.

Harald Scholz is the Communication and Stakeholders Relations Manager of the IES. He monitors the Institute’s scientific performance and makes regular reports on the Institute’s achievements. Harald also coordinates all IES external communication activities and follows up on the Institute's interactions with the media. He is the contact point for all customers of IES research, in particular the Policy Directorate-Generals of the European Commission.

Erica Roggio is the Institute Publications Officer and she assists Harald with the Communication and Public Relations Office of the IES. She maintains and updates the IES website and supports the participation of the IES in JRC-wide events. She is involved in all communication with the public.

Gráinne Mulhern is the Information and Communication Assistant of IES. She coordinates the production of reports and brochures about the Institute and creates and maintains the Institute databases. She also assists in maintaining the Institute's internal communication tool, the IESnet.

Livia Vasile is the Communication and Public Relations Trainee in the Office of the Director. She supports and assists in the preparation of databases on the Institute's competitive activities and is being trained on writing for the web and internal communications.

Hilde de Bondt and Hedi Burza manage the Director’s Secretariat. They are the voices of the IES when you call the Institute by phone and they support the Director in all his tasks, including managing his agenda. They also assist in the logistical preparations for visitors to the Institute and in the organisation of meetings and workshops.
