On 30 October, on the occasion of the Global Soil Week in Berlin, IES Director Maria Betti and the Director of the Potsdam Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), Klaus Töpfer, signed a 5-year Collaboration Agreement that aims to foster cooperation of the two institutes in the field of sustainable soil management.
The main objectives of the Collaboration Agreement are to:
Through the Collaboration Agreement, the two institutes will identify soil-related challenges for investigation and develop innovative cost-effective approaches to improve sustainable soil management. Together, they will work on common objectives, datasets, modelling tools, public initiatives and target audiences/policy frameworks related to soil. They will jointly promote the development of the European Regional Soil Partnership, and contribute to the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ and a ‘Soil Protocol’.
