Latest IPCC report on climate science

The first document of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5), the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of Working Group I, was presented today at a press conference in Stockholm. The Summary, which reports on the physical science basis, confirms that climate change is a fact, and that it is extremely likely that observed warning since the mid-20th century is mainly caused by human activities.

The SPM is based on new evidence of climate change from independent scientific analyses of the climate system, paleoclimate archives, theoretical studies and simulations using climate models. One such model is the IES Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR), a global dataset of past and present greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants, which was used in AR5 for carrying out model analyses of past and future climate change drivers.

A webcast of the press conference is available on the IPCC website.

The final version of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report, of which IES scientist F. Dentener is a lead author, is expected to be finalised in 2014.
