
Alessandro, from Rubano (near Padova) in Italy, has a Degree in Environmental Sciences from Ca' Foscari University, Venice, a Masters in "Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing" from IUAV University of Venice, and a Phd in Environmental Sciences.
He has conducted research at the Institute of Marine Sciences (Italian National Research Centre) after obtaining a 6 year research grant. Whilst at the Centre he was involved mainly in sedimentological and morphological studies in the Lagoon of Venice.
During this time he managed and elaborated GIS and webGIS environmental data, using various tools and software - in particular Open Source.
His current research is on the interoperability of software systems supporting European environmental policies, focusing on application of INSPIRE Implementing Rules to geospatial systems and services developed by JRC to support such policies.
